PENGARUH GELATIN SEBAGAI BAHAN PENGIKAT TERHADAP SIFAT FISIK TABLET KUNYAH EKSTRAK KELOPAK BUNGA ROSELLA(Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) DENGAN GRANULASI BASAH

Abstract


Chewing tablet is a suitable dosage form for rosella (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) as traditional medicine. Gelatin is a binding agent that able to produce chewing tablets with different physical properties in various concentrations. The aim of the study was to find out the effect of gelatin as binding agent for rosella calyx chewing tablet and to know the concentration of gelatin to obtain the best formula to produce qualified chewing tablet. Rosella calyx was extracted by maceration using ethanol 70%. Chewing tablets were made in 3 formulations with gelatin concentrations: 5%, 10% and 15% using wet granulation method. The obtained granules were physically tested including flowing time, the angel of repose and lost on drying. The dry granules wer then pressed into tablets using maximum pressed machine. The chewing tablets were physically tested including weight uniformity, hardness, friability and taste perception. The data was analizyed statistically using kolmogorof-Smirnov, one way anova, Tukey test using SPSS 12.0 for windows program at 95% confidence. The result of the study showed that gelatin in various concentration affected the hardness and friablility, but not affected the weight uniformity of chewing tablets. Concentration of gelatin 5% was the best formula, because with a small gelatin concentration was able to fulfill the requirement of phiscal properties and evaluation of taste perception.
