Abstract

Media-massa sering disebut sebagai pilar keempat dalam demokrasi. Koran adalah sumber kekuasaan yang bisa menjadi pengimbang dari kekuasaan-kekuasaan lain, tetapi, kekuasaan cenderung disalahgunakan. (''Power tend to be corrupted''). Pasal 2 UU No 40 tentang Pers menyebutkan bahwa kemerdekaan pers adalah salah satu wujud kedaulatan rakyat yang berasaskanprinsip-prinsipdemokrasi, keadilan, dansupremasi okum.Hal iniberartibahwayuridis formal, pers Indonesia adalahmerupakanwujudkedaulatanrakyatuntukmemperolehaksesberitasecaraluas.Namunpadadasarnyaharusmemperhatikanprinsipdemokrasi, keadilan, dansupremasi okum.Dengandemikiantidakbolehadaberita yang berdampakmerusakcitrademokrasi, menodaikeadilan, danjugatidakbolehbertentangandengan okum yang berlaku di Indonesia.
