Gelecot Toothpaste sebagai Terobosan Baru Pencegahan Karies Gigi

Karies gigi merupakan penyakit jaringan keras gigi yang masih banyak ditemukan di Indonesia. Salah satu pemicu karies gigi karena adanya infeksi bakteri yaitu Streptococcus mutans. Bakteri ini menyebabkan karies gigi karena menghasilkan polisakarida ekstraseluler. Bekicot (Achatina fulica) memiliki protein achasin yang dapat reseptor pengikat protein (enzim) bakteri, sehingga dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memformulasikan lendir bekicot (Achatina fulica) dalam sediaan pasta gigi gel. Lendir bekicot diformulasikan dengan variasi konsentrasi 5%, 10%, 15% . Evaluasi fisik yang dilakukan meliputi uji organoleptis, uji pH, uji daya sebar, dan uji homogenitas. Hasil organoleptis berwarna putih berbau peppermint serta lapisan yang menyatu dengan konsistensi kental lunak. Rentang pH pasta gigi gel 7-8, rentang daya sebar 3,818 cm - 5,362 cm , rentang viskositas 10.020 - 19.120 cps serta uji homogenitas tidak adanya partikel kasar. Evaluasi aktifitas antibakteri menggunakan metode difusi diperoleh hasil daya hambat dengan rentang 1,312 - 3,185 mm terhadap Streptococcus mutans.
