Abstract

Mathematics is a subject often perceived as difficult by many students. The ability to understand mathematical concepts is crucial for students' success in this field. However, some students face challenges in grasping mathematical material. Learning disabilities are a common issue that may arise during the learning process. This study employs a descriptive quantitative research method, utilizing several data collection methods including closed-ended questionnaires and documentation. The research was conducted at Budi Murni 3 Catholic High School in Medan, located at Jalan Teratai No. 21a, Sidorejo District, Medan Tembung, North Sumatra. The population of this study consists of the 11th-grade social science (IPS) students at Budi Murni 3 Catholic High School, Medan. The findings indicate that the primary factors contributing to students' difficulties in understanding mathematics lessons at Budi Murni 3 Catholic High School are predominantly psychological. These include a tendency towards disinterest and a lack of engagement in learning mathematics, which in turn hampers their comprehension of the subject.
