Abstract

The aim of this study is to improve the initial reading skills of elementary school students by using strategies that are interesting and fun for students. This type of qualitative research applies library or literature methods. The data used was taken from books, Written dokuments and journals related to early reading. Some of the strategies used by teachers to improve students' initial reading skills are using Synthetic Structural Analytical Strategies (SAS), singing strategies, reading strategies using picture learning boards, outdoor reading strategies and literacy activities. It is hoped that by using interesting and fun strategies, students' initial reading comprehension abilities will increase, so that they can contribute to students in subsequent academic learning activities.
