Abstract

This study is a literature study aimed at studying the influence of learning in Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) on student learning outcomes, mainly reviewed from numeration skills. The quality of mathematics education in Indonesia remains low, with the results of the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) showing a less satisfactory position. To address this problem, RME was introduced as a learning approach that associates mathematics with real life and student experience. The study used a method of literature study by collecting data from various journals and articles over the last five years that discussed RME and numeration. The results showed that RME is effective in improving student mathematical learning outcomes and numerational abilities compared to conventional and scientific methods. RME takes advantage of contextual problems, student active participation, and interaction in learning, thus making the learning process more interesting and meaningful. This finding supports the Freudenthal theory that emphasizes the importance of mathematizing everyday experiences and applying mathematics in real contexts. Thus, the application of RME is expected to improve the quality of mathematics education in Indonesia, increase student involvement, and generate a better understanding of the mathematical concepts.
