Abstract

This study aims to describe a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) based experiment using a "Magnetic Maze" to encourage critical thinking among fifth-grade elementary school students. The background of this research is the lack of variation by teachers in learning media. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with direct observation techniques at SDTQ Nuurul Waahid. The method employed is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the study, consisting of 20 students, included 9 boys and 11 girls, who conducted the STEAM experiment using the Project Based Learning (PjBL) method. The results of the research indicate that the use of a project-based STEAM approach in the Magnetic Maze experiment positively contributes to the development of critical thinking skills and character in students. Notably, the indicators of enthusiasm, cooperation, and communication showed dominant results in the Good to Very Good category. Meanwhile, indicators of critical thinking and creativity still need to be improved through more structured and reflective learning strategies. As part of the STEAM learning approach, the use of Magnetic Labyrinth experiments can help encourage students' critical thinking skills, particularly in terms of the indicators of identification, observation, and problem solving.
