EFFECT OF COFFEE HUSK COMPOST ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF RED CHILI PLANTS IN DIFFERENT PLANTING MEDIA COMPOSITIONS

Abstract


To improve red chili productivity, organic fertilizers and suitable planting media are essential. This research was conducted from May to October 2022 at the Instiper Yogyakarta Education and Research Garden, using a Completely Randomized Design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor was coffee husk compost, with 3 levels: 30 g, 60 g, and 90 g. The second factor was planting media composition, with 3 levels: 1 soil: 1 rice husk, 2 soils: 1 rice husk, and 1 soil: 2 rice husks. Data were analyzed using variance analysis (5% level significance), and significant differences were tested using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT)(5% levels of significance). No significant interaction was found between coffee husk compost treatments and planting media compositions. Application of 90 g coffee husk compost enhanced growth, while the number and weight of fruits per plant were comparable to those of 30 g and 60 g. Planting media compositions 1:1 and 2:1 were better than 1:2 in terms of growth and yield of red chili.
