Tattoing: Function and Symbol
Abstract
Tato memiliki fungsi spesifik dalam mengungkapkan ekspresi manusia. Fungsi tersebut berhubungan dengan satu kelompok masyarakat tertentu, sehingga dimungkinkan terjadi perbedaan antar-kelompok. Sebagai bagian dari folk arts, Â tato memiliki akar pada kebudayaan tradisional, yang kemudian menjadi bagian dari kebudayaan modern. Dan ciri tradisional itu tidak hilang. Fungsi tato tercermin dari simbol-simbol yang tergambar dalam artefak rupa ini, yang sejalan dengan ekspresi dan harapan dari pengguna tato. Simbol-simbol dari budaya tradisional dalam tato ternyata masih tampak nyata, meskipun tato modern jelas telah terpaut jauh secara waktu dan ruang dengan tato tradisional.
